The Flying Years
Most excellent review of the British aircraft industry's history
It's sometimes a little humorous in its total focus on UK industry, in the midst of the global evolution of aircraft and aerospace industry, however, this is a very good, and very interesting documentary. The British contributions to the global industry deserve such a telling, and even though I'm from the US, I recognize and applaud them. Most aircraft enthusiasts will be well entertained by this film.

In 1918 England was manufacturing 700 aircraft a month, but after the Second Wold War, the Royal Air Force had to find new outlets for the use of their aircraft. In August of 1919 the commercial flying industry began in England with flights to Paris, and the evolution of commercial airline companies like Imperial Airways had begun. Even new non-commercial planes were developed such as the Spitfire, as well as the Harrier aircraft which had vertical take-off, and was used during the 1982 Falklands War. England found uses for its aircraft not only for commercial purposes, but also developed new planes in its aviation program to compete in war time conditions.

Excellent British documentary covering the history of aviation, predominantly British aviation, but still an excellent program containing some very interesting archive material. Well worth viewing for any aviation enthusiast!
